Occupational Therapy Services for Children

About Bloomwell

BLOOMWELL Paediatric Occupational Therapy is a small dedicated occupational therapy service for children based in the Tweed Valley in the north east corner of NSW. Our service area extends beyond rural Tweed Valley to Kyogle, Nimbin and Ocean Shores. We work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum and children with developmental delay to improve their ability to interact with daily living situations. We see children in the age range from 2 to 12 years old and teenagers to 17 years old.

The service is mobile based and focusses on delivering the support in school (and preschool) environments as well as in the family home. We work closely with schools and teaching staff in a way that supports the learning in a familiar environment.

Schools & Preschools

Children spend a great deal of time in a school environment where many different activities are required and they interface with a diverse range or personalities amongst their peers and teachers.

This offers many opportunities to develop skills and abilities for children including social interactions, learning, motor skills, participation, emotional management and so on, in a child’s normal environment.

Home Sessions

Where school sessions are not practical due to the nature of the issue being addressed, home sessions are available. We can also arrange home visits during school holidays.

We will need to undertake an initial risk assessment of your home to meet our obligations for safe work environments and any matters will need to be addressed prior to undertaking sessions at your home. A guardian will need to be nearby during the session.
These sessions are useful in providing guidance and training to the family in specific areas to support the child’s development outside of the therapy sessions.

i

Reports

Each session includes 15 minutes to create session notes in a report format. This information is forwarded by email to the child’s guardian to keep them abreast of progress.

The session report is also forwarded as agreed with the guardian to other involved parties such as teachers.
A summary report to justify future funding is prepared on an annual basis or at completion of service. This report includes recommendations for further actions if required.

Assessments
